Med-Gas Certification FAQ's
Seattle Area Pipe Trades receives numerous questions each month after sending out the expiration notices. This FAQ should help to answer some of those questions. If you are still unsure regarding your status please feel free to contact Mia Scigliano @ 425.271.5900 ext. 121.
q Do I need to maintain my NITC (PIPE) medical gas certification after I have my Washington state Medical Gas endorsement?
No. You need the NITC certification to get your state endorsement then you MAY let the NITC certification lapse. Just maintain your state endorsement. If you plan to travel to work in different locals you may want to keep the NITC certification in the event those locals or jurisdictions require it. It would be wise to keep your NITC updated for UA records and updating your code changes as the State of Washington uses these records if you have trouble in reapplying or renewing your State License.
q My NITC Brazer continuity lapsed, how do I renew it?
If you have not been brazing med gas you will need to take the NITC brazing exam again. Watch for your curriculum mailer for test dates. If you have been brazing med gas fill out the Continuity form for documentation and send it to Seattle Area Pipe Trades.
q You tell me my NITC brazer or installer certification is about to expire but my card says I’m not.
There is a lot of confusion between the NITC and the Washington State endorsement. The school does not track state expiration dates, only NITC.
q I just renewed my NITC braze continuity a few months ago. Why is it about to expire, it’s supposed to be good for a year?
The NITC braze continuity is only good for six months. The state continuity is good for a year.
q I received a notice my NITC Installer certification has expired but I sent my mail in test recently.
It often takes awhile for the records to be updated. If you do not receive your renewal card in a reasonable period contact our office.
q I took the Med Gas test recently and was notified I had passed. I have not received a certificate or card from the UA or NITC to send to Washington State for my state endorsement.
If oten takes awhile for the records to be updated. If you do not receive your card in a reasonable period contact our office.
